artist statement

Softly, through the portal of furniture and sculpture I make objects that resonate with natural forms and quiet reflection. Working with wood, metal, ceramic and textile I focus on the quiet joy of materiality to construct objects inspired by elemental forms of worldbuilding: totems, doorways, bridges, spires, piers, fences and other natural and manmade landscape structures.  I use drawing, modeling, writing  and curious investigation of material to translate these visual metaphors, from landscape-scale down to the human body.  I see this process as a means for me to slowly and thoughtfully amplify beauty and meaning around me aiming to strike a similar chord of joy and sensitivity in others.
